Lets say you needed to have a car shipped from one state to another, yet you never did anything like this before. What do you do? Most people will go to their favorite search engine, Google, Yahoo or Bing and do a search to find a company or find out how to get a job like this handled. Then you go to a few websites and request a quote by typing out all your information. Next thing you know you have 10-15 companies calling you to quote you and earn your business. Immediately you are turned off because you just wanted one or a few quotes, not get bombarded by dozens of companies. Do you think your car shipping experience started off correctly? Neither did I.
Each year the industry does seem to be shrinking slightly. Either people are not looking to transport their car any longer because their first experience started off so poorly, or they continuously ask companies head of time if they are a broker or a carrier, thinking that they know what they are doing. It is exhausting.
The problems is the auto transport lead generation websites. They think that sending a lead out to as many companies as they can is helping when in reality it is hurting the industry. Who in their right mind would think that having 10-15 companies calling one customer is best for business??? All that the lead generation websites are seeing is dollar signs in their wallet instead of trying to help the industry as a whole.
There is one company that is trying to change the lead generation business, Auto Transport Quote Services. It is actually a company that I own. I view things differently. I feel that sending a lead out to a lesser number of companies is smarter because the customer is not getting frustrated and bombarded by tons of company. Having about 3-5 different companies calling to quote a customer is the perfect number. The customer is getting enough quotes to decide which company is best for them, the brokers buying the leads are making more sales because the lead isn’t shared by as many brokers and the lead site is winning because all their customers are taken care of fully. It is a win-win-win.
Most lead generation websites are afraid to change their system because too many brokers are used to buying a $1.00 leads. These are the companies that do not see the value in the other leads because they are sacred to even try. As a business owner I am trying to change the industry for the better and I want the other leads sites, my competition to accompany me. It is not everyday that a company wants to help its competitors and help make an entire industry better. Most companies would just keep carving out their share of the pie and leaving the others out to dry. Not me. I truly do care about the car shipping industry. I truly want to change the industry and make it a more reliable industry and make it where everyone is happier. I want to customers who needs to transport their car happier because if they have a great experience they will transport their car again and also make referrals to their friends and family. I want the brokers to make more money because being a broker is a stressful job, but much of the stress is from the over saturated $1.00 leads. Then the lead sites can make a slightly higher profit margin by charging a fraction more per lead. Normally a lead site makes $10-$12 per lead it sells. However, if they started selling to less companies and charging more (i.e. sell each lead to 6 companies for $2.25 or even 4 companies for $3.50) they could make anywhere from $13.50 – $14.00 per lead. It truly is a win-win-win scenario.
Whoever reads this I would like for them to share this to every auto transport company, lead site, hauler, etc. that you know. Lets change the industry for the better. It really needs our help.
