Zero Motorcycles has been outpacing the traditional motorcycle companies in the development and branding of high-performance electric bikes. Harley-Davidson has entered the zero-emissions fray, although the venerable motorcycle manufacturer is not releasing a model quite yet. Just as shippers of motorcycles test different routes and equipment prior to adoption, Harley-Davidson is asking its customers to help with the testing process of its electric bike.
Before customers get their opportunity to ride the new Harley-Davidson, biking press outlets – including Cycle World – are being given access to the model. The publications have been provided “first rides” of the electric bike to generate publicity for the Project Live Wire Experience, which will ship the motorcycle to dealers and let motorcycle fanatics feel the LiveWire in action.
How the consumer-focused project will work
As mentioned in the introduction, Harley-Davidson is not just looking to promote its motorcycle. Instead, it wants to get comments and suggestions from its clientele to make the electric model as strong as possible. There are approximately 20 copies of the LiveWire that will be sent throughout the United States during 2014, then to Canadian and European cities next year. As is wise when transporting a bike (since nylon straps on an open carrier can damage paint), H-D will use enclosed car shipping services to move the bikes between tour destinations.
Once Harley customers ride the bike during one of the events, they will be able to share their thoughts with the company’s representatives. Based on the general feedback collected over the next 18 months, H-D will decide whether to start mass-production of the model. Just as consumers seeking reliable services to ship their car can check online consumer reviews, Harley-Davidson is using in-person consumer reviews to improve LiveWire.
Major step for Harley & motorcyclists
Harley is taking a huge leap forward in recognition of our fuel-efficient, eco-friendly times. An investor relations video for the project, noting that the bike represents Harley-Davidson’s first effort at 100% electric transportation, calls LiveWire “our next bold statement of American reinvention.”
Motorcyclists throughout the United States love to see novel and innovative bikes. Although new developments are exciting, the bikes currently owned by motorcycle lovers must be protected as well, especially when they are professionally shipped. At CSC, thousands of satisfied customers have experienced our reliability firsthand, and we consistently “pass the test,” as demonstrated by our top ratings on Google, BBB and Transport Reviews.
