If Car Shipping Carriers would have to guess, we would say Tesla Motors has the cleanest and less cluttered dealership in the country. They literally have a building a computer or two and a person to help you navigate. We should know, we have transport from the Tampa dealership a few times. You walk into the Tesla Dealership, you walk to a computer and you order the car and features you want. Depending on the type of features you could get you car in a few weeks or a few months. What if there was actually a simpler process and a process that is faster as well?
Recently, two companies partnered up on a project to 3D print a car. Local Motors and Oak Ridge National Laboratory 3D printed an entire Shelby Cobra in just over 44 hours. That is a staggering numbering because 3D printing could not have done that a few years ago. It just goes to show how far 3D printing has come along the last few years. The two companies used carbon fiber reinforced plastics to make the Shelby Cobra. It is basically a perfect replica. Under the hood they put in an electric engine and driver terrain instead of the normal Big Block V8 engine in the Shelby’s.
What this shows is that the future of car buying a car building could be as easy as having a computer, choose the car model you want and want features you want in it and a printed could simply print you out your vehicle in a day or two and you can drive it and take it home. The amount of options such as paint colors, types of car models, grill style, body style, etc can all be easier to change with 3D printing. Instead of having only 5 paint colors to choose form here could be 50. Instead of a car maker only having 5 car models on the lot they could have 10. Maybe having more aggressive body styling would be cheaper to make when it is printed instead of being molded like they are today. The possibilities are endless.
